Today’s show is about this unique Collaboration of San Diego thought leaders. We will discuss what the collaboration is, how the strategic alliance began and why it matters.

Segment 1:

The collaboration was developed to enrich members’ ability to connect with decision makers, peers and a more diverse HR segment.
The collaboration will enhance member’s ability to build their skills by participating in cross-functional workshops and sharing experiences with their peers in other HR specialties.
The collaboration began in March 2013 with 10 Associations and grew by two before 2013 ended. The 12 Associations in the strategic alliance.

The segment opened with an introduction of the event. Including Keynote Speaker Richard J. Simmons, a partner in the Labor and Employment Practice Group in Los Angeles office of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton, LLP.

Jason and Natasha discussed how success of the collaboration would be measured. What we will learn from this first ever event. How do we continue to rationalize programming across organizations.

Guests discussed their vision for the future or evolution of the collaboration beyond 2014. They examined the potential for creating a template for inter-group collaboration within and beyond SD.
In 2015 and beyond, opportunities for program coordination, co-marketing and co-membership to make it easier on our members.

Guest shared their co-presentation experience at Mission Bay High School on Tuesday and Wednesday (10th and 11th of February) and the unique collaboration that presentation created.
SD SHRM was invited to speak to the Business Education Class at Mission Bay High School about Human Resources. This class operates a student store and they are keen on business.

The 90 minute presentation offered San Diego specific statistics, graphs on relevant information like the 22 employment sectors and their average salaries, the top paying jobs as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for 2013.
Student learned about the employer landscape and SANDAG 2010 American Community Survey on San Diego’s educational attainment and average household incomes. San Diego’s Top 10% of income goes to Top 13% of educational attainment.

Segment 4:

Segment 4 begins with more about the presentation to the Mission Bay High School, particularly what were the types of questions the students asked.

ODNet discussed the importance of connecting with the emerging professional through an intern program. SD SHRM has invited the President of the Student Chapter of SHRM to participate on the board of directors.
