We had the pleasure of interviewing Joann Stang, Learning Academy Founder for BASIC (Basic Assistance for Students in the Community). BASIC is a literacy program in the desert of San Diego County. This program and its volunteers advocates for low-income youth. Hear how people in this small rural community are making a difference for young people who are benefiting from literacy assistance.

The second half of our hour was spent with Elisabeth Jacobsen, Program Representative for the San Diego Council on Literacy, an urban literacy coalition. As she is new to the organization, Elisabeth’s experiences and perspective are fresh and striking. Listen here to learn more about the work that Elisabeth is doing with the SDCOL and its 29 affiliated literacy programs.
