On this episode of PRfect Pitch, host Nicole Rodrigues, CEO and Founder of NRPR Group chats with Kelley Weaver. You may recognize the name from ABC’s hit show Shark Tank, as she created pursecase. Kelley is also the Founder of Melrose PR, a Los Angeles based boutique Public Relations firm focusing on lifestyle, hospitality, travel, and consumer products.

The theme of this episode is media relations and Nicole asks Kelley questions about how she builds meaningful relationships with media and how she encourages her staff to cultivate their own media connections.

Kelley shares how important it is to put a face to a name from a media database. She feels that nothing beats an in-person meeting and people get too reliant on quick communication tools like email, Twitter, Instagram, etc. As the Founder of a company, Kelley encourages her staff to get to know members of the media before sending a pitch and will happily reimburse her staff for in-person lunch meetings with media. Kelley says she likes to work with clients that “have big goals and vision.”

Chatting with Kelley was a friendly reminder to make sure media relationships is real and not one sided.
