About CS Keys

A Conversation with C.S. Keys

There is something about the art of conversation that has been lost over the years. The ability to sit across from someone and truly engage has fallen into a virtual abyss of text messaging an e-mail. Sure, these things are necessary to maintain a foothold in the world engine, but there is something to be said about the sharing of ideas through the spoken word. It is a lost art, but there are still many masters out there actively practicing and bringing us information and ideas that we would not have considered previously.

C.S. Keys is one of those masters.

“My main goal is to educate and entertain”, says C.S. And through television and radio, this Pennsylvania native has educated and entertained the city of San Diego, his home for the last 14 years. Before his arrival though, he blazed a trail of broadcasting success that set a new standard for anchors. While with KDKA in Pittsburgh, C.S. became the first African American to anchor the weather in that market. He later moved to WPXI where he helped make their morning show one of the top rated programs in the market. He was described as, “…the number one African American presence or role model outside of sports”, an unprecedented feat in a city rich with sports history and iconic athletes. Because of his tireless efforts in the community, Mayor Tom Murphy proclaimed September 22, “CS Keys Day” in the city of Pittsburgh.

Through his forum, The CS Keys Show on wsRadio, C.S. takes a love and passion for sports, and guides guests and listeners through the world of athletics like a maestro.

And nothing is off limits.

“Ultimately what I want is a show where I don’t have to hold back”, he says. There are amazing stories in sports, but there is an underlying ugliness in the industry too. Through his show, C.S. is able to bring those issues to the forefront in a manner that is both real and engaging. C.S. Keys brings out the humanity in the athletes that we emulate and hold to high standards, and reminds us that we are all running the same race.

But, his show is much more than just sports. C.S. reminds us that we are all multi-talented, three dimensional people with varied skills and interests. Over the course of sixty minutes, he touches the hearts and minds of sports fans across the city and nation. In that same time frame he brings to light social challenges that we may all face, and with the help of his guests, he provides solutions to those challenges.

And he does it in a manner that makes those around him feel at ease.

“I love this. I have guests on the phone, I have guests that come in, and I’m able to get information out there and have fun with it”.

And that fun is apparent whether listening to him or watching him live on the air. With a wide variety of guests that touch on life’s many categories, C.S. is essentially able to share a conversation with someone about topics loved by all.

When not in front of the cameras or microphone, C.S. is working to strengthen communities and secure our future through his work with children. Through a partnership with Athletes for Education, C.S. launched CS Keys’ Kids Program, which is dedicated to guiding and mentoring youth by encouraging them to stay in and excel in school and at home. In 2004, Mayor Dick Murphy and the San Diego City Council proclaimed April 26 “C.S. Keys Day” for his community efforts and commitment to youth.

No matter the age, no matter the subject, C.S. stimulates minds and challenges people to think. He will make you laugh, he will point out alternative viewpoints, and he will give you the information you need to make an informed decision. Tune in to wsRadio, sit back, relax…and have a conversation with C.S. Keys.
Everyone is welcome.
