About the Host: Dr. Ariel Ortiz® MD, FACS, IFASMBS is a Surgeon of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Leader in Bariatric Surgery and Medical Director of Obesity Control Center®. A pioneer in his specialty, he is accredited with several surgical techniques currently used in the world. He has performed over twenty thousand weight loss procedures in patients from all continents and has also performed surgery in all corners of the world. Dr. Ortiz is currently Professor of Surgery and Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Autonomous University of Baja California, Faculty of Medicine and Psychology, where he also graduated and where he was granted the highest academic recognition, the “A.H. Robbins” award. This recognition was given to him by Mexico’s former president, Carlos Salinas de Gortari. He has also received several awards, has given presentations all around the world and is the author of several published articles in peer-reviewed journals, and textbook chapters. Dr. Ortiz has appeared in several famous talk shows like The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Doctors Show, Nightline, among others. He was selected as “one of the most influential surgeons in America” by Newsweek Magazine and was selected as one of the rising starts in the healthcare sector by the Entrepreneur magazine.
