Marko Karakasevic, Master Distiller, represents the 13th generation to carry on the family’s European heritage of fermenting and distilling at the independent Charbay Winery & Distillery of Napa and Mendocino. The family is one of the early pioneers in the modern American artisan distillery movement. In the December 2013 Spirit Journal, F. Paul Pacult rated the following Charbay spirits all with 5 Stars / Highest Recommendation: Charbay Brandy No. 89 24 Years Old Alambic Brandy, Charbay Hop Flavored Whiskey Release R5, Lot 511A, Charbay Hop Flavored Whiskey Release S, Lot 211A, and Charbay Hop Flavored Whiskey Release III, Barrels 8-15, 17 & 18. In addition, Marko is the owner of Marko K. Spirits of California distributing Charbay F5 and Tequila Tapatio.

Charbay Winery & Distillery remains an independent family business owned and managed by Miles and Susan Karakasevic. They work side-by-side with their son Marko and his wife Jenni to carry on the inherited artisan traditions. They began distilling in California in 1983 with Alambic Pot Still Brandy. They also make wines, ports and aperitifs – using brandy they distill in their Alambic Pot Still. This family is hands on and it shows in the quality of everything they bottle. Based in Napa Valley, the family lives and works amidst peaceful pine trees on Spring Mountain above St. Helena – at the affectionately known as “The Still on the Hill.”

03 Presenting the Award-Winning Wines of Hudson Valley Whitecliff Vineyard and North River Champenoise – Yancey and Michael Migliore

Whitecliff Vineyard is an artisanal, family run winery created from the ground up by current owners and founders, Michael Migliore and Yancey Stanforth-Migliore, in what was an empty field thirty years ago. Today Michael works closely with Cornell Cooperative Extension testing new grape varieties, and pushing the envelope on the quality of grape growing in the region. In that capacity he also serves as president of the Hudson Valley Wine and Grape Association. Their vineyard is rooted in the centuries-old agricultural traditions of the Hudson Valley in Gardiner, New York. North River Champenoise is their sparkling wine brand that includes three different styles at present. You will need to phone directly to reserve bottles. They will be disgorging and labeling in early December 2013.

04 Whitecliff Vineyard Overlooks Shawangunk Mountains Amongst Centuries-Old Agricultural Traditions – Michael and Yancey Migliore

At Whitecliff Vineyard and North River Champenoise, the Migliores have dedicated more than 30 years to finding and planting grape varieties that succeed on their site. They currently have one of the largest vineyards in the Hudson Valley, with over 20 varieties of grapes planted for their continuing effort to refine their wine growing and winemaking.
