Cardiovascular disease is our number one killer in the United States. This is largely driven by an increase in pressure in the arteries known as hypertension or high blood pressure. Once this diagnosis occurs, a patient is told that they need to be on a medication for the rest of their life. This is not the case. What a patient should be told is that their blood pressure needs to come down! A medication is only necessary as a last resort. There are many reasons for high blood pressure from stress to nutritional deficiencies. The blood pressure being high is a sign that some area is off. The correct approach should be to figure out why the pressure is off and treat the cause. A medication is not the only option. When blood pressure goes up, it is time to check in and figure out why this shift has happened and treat accordingly.  Relax! There is an answer to hypertension!
