-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve Snyder, Vice President, Exhibit and Program Development, The Franklin Institute Vice President, Exhibit and Program Development for The Franklin Institute since 2001, Steve Snyder grew up in New York and New Jersey. He received his undergraduate degree in Physics from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and his Ph.D. in the same topic from Michigan State. He decided that physics would enable him "to see the world in a brand new way." What Steve and I will be discussing: Two thousand years ago in the summer of 70 CE, the Romans breached the walls of Jerusalem and razed the city, even destroying the Second temple. Only its outer walls remained. It is believed that this stone fell from the southwest corner of the temple’s outer wall during the fighting— a remnant of the retaining wall that enclosed it, 2,000 years ago. The 3-ton stone is believed to have fallen from the wall during Roman times and had been part of a large pile of similar fallen stones for centuries. It is the first time it's been on tour. When the exhibit was in NYC, they estimate several thousand prayers were left and expectations is this number will grow as word about the exhibit spreads. The prayers were cleared them off the stone/wall section almost daily and sent them to the Rabbinate of the Western Wall, coordinated through the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA).
