Peggy Smedley compares Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity and which types of connectivity plans are more attractive to consumers. She points out an interesting statement made by AT&T’s CEO and the curiosity it is igniting regarding the soon-to-be-released iPad. Smedley also discusses a recent analyst report and the growth it is predicting for the amount of data being transmitted by connected devices in the next few years.;
Jake Jacobson, senior media relations specialist, Garmin Intl., joins the show to talk about what Garmin is doing in the connected fitness device market. He talks about Garmin’s Forerunner fitness watches and some of the key benefits they provide to consumers. He also describes how Garmin transitioned itself from a GPS company into additional markets, including health and fitness.;
Brian Macdonald, director, ANT Wireless, describes the interoperability standard his company developed, ANT+, and some of the major markets/companies who have adopted the standard. He also talks about the ANT+ Alliance and the organization’s mission, plus some of the other projects ANT is currently involved in.;
Smedley and Mike Carrozzo, chief editor, M2M magazine, discuss some of the coolest location-based applications available for iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android phones. Some of the applications discussed include an app that gives you updates on the best locations to go surfing and another one to identify the best snow conditions for skiing. There is even an app that pulls information from Wikipedia right onto your screen, with the information determined by which direction you point the phone!
