Peggy Smedley discusses a new energy-management hub from GE that will be used to communicate remotely with forthcoming connected appliances in the home and how the hub will give consumers ready access to information about their energy consumption. She also talks about a recent survey that was conducted among social-network users that had some pretty interesting results regarding the number of users for location-based services and those that are concerned about their privacy when using LBS.;
Maurice Thompson, director of business development, Verizon Wireless Open Development, talks about Verizon’s current role in the M2M space in regards to what the company is doing in both the B2B and B2C markets through the Open Development program and what types of things we can expect from the Open Development group and the Verizon network moving forward.;
Eric Collins, CEO, Montage Systems, discusses his company’s product design and manufacturing services that are being used in a number of different industries including healthcare and automotive. He discusses a specific application built on the company’s HealthPhone platform that can monitor information about the pressure on the bottom of diabetics’ feet and transmit the data wirelessly via ZigBee technology.;
Peggy Smedley, and Mike Carrozzo, chief editor, Connected World magazine, discuss the major non-operator application providers (Apple, Android, BlackBerry, etc.) and where they currently stand in the space in terms of marketshare as well as some analysts’ predictions for how those positions will change moving forward. They also talk about Google’s new software tool that enables users to create their own applications.
